European websites overnight leaked the latest concept by Swedish company Saab. Dubbed the 9-4x, this new crossover is expected to be close to a production model being released by the company in 2009. Saab has been one of the pioneers of ethanol fuel so it’s only fitting that this concept is fitted with a 2.0L ‘BioPower’ branded engine that develops an impressive 300hp and 400Nm when used with E85 fuel.

Lotus has teamed up with Hot Wheels to create a 1:5 scale model of a new roadster that was displayed recently at the SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas. The car was designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hot Wheels but it was also a vessel for Lotus to preview its future design direction as well as being a great deal of fun for those involved in the project.

China’s Guangzhou Auto took the wraps off a new hybrid concept at the Guangzhou Motor Show today, showcasing the carmaker’s hybrid and drive-by-wire technology. Guangzhou Auto is a Chinese joint-venture partner for Honda and Toyota and, for the latest concept vehicle, they called upon Italy’s Torino Design to develop the finished product.

One lucky industrial design student in the U.S. will have her vision of a 2018 Mazda3 transformed into a full-scale clay model live at this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The concept was created by 21-year-old Mallory McMorrow and was picked from a field of other designs submitted in an online competition on Facebook. McMorrow will now work with Mazda’s North American design Chief Franz von Holzhausen to bring the concept to life in the carmaker’s booth.

Sometimes, however, car companies actually work together with these individuals to help create a concept that could potentially represent a design direction for a future model.

The Mitsuoka Orochi is a Japanese supercar that first appeared in concept form back in 2001 but managed to enter production that very same year.The original concept was built off a donor Honda NSX chassis and was powered by a similar V6 engine. Since then, Mitsuoka has released two revised models, one in 2003 and another in 2005, and now for the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show it has unveiled another concept version of the Orochi.
