The Batmobile has been featured in this forum before but here is a brief history of this iconic car.
In 1955, the Lincoln division of the Ford Motor Company designed a futuristic concept car called the Lincoln Futura. It was handbuilt in Turin, Italy at a cost of $250,000 USD, but like many concept cars was never put into production.
In the early 1960s George Barris of Barris Kustom City acquired the car for one dollar directly from Ford.
Fast forward to 1965, ABC Television approached Barris to have him build a car for their upcoming "Batman" TV series. The only catch was the car had to be ready in just three weeks. Seeing the bat-like qualities his Futura already had Barris felt it was the perfect answer. He set about modifying the nose and tail adding numerous bat-like shapes and references.
Three weeks later, in October 1965 the Batmobile was born and television history made.
